Hidden Differences

 

Hidden differences, if undiagnosed and/or unsupported, can have a detrimental impact on peoples lives. These differences can severely impacted their ability to access education and qualifications, obtain and keep employment and to make and maintain friendships and relationships.

It is essential that all staff and volunteers coming into contact with your beneficiaries have awareness and understanding of hidden differences, know how to adapt the way they work, and provide an inclusive environment, in order to provide the best experience for your beneficiaries.  

 

Hidden Differences can cause difficulties with:

Social Communication 

Social Imagination 

Sensory Processing                          

Flexibility of Thinking/Behaviour                 

Executive Function

 

Hidden Differences can be caused by (but not limited to):

Autism   

ADHD      

Dyslexia                

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder         

Brain Injury

 

The impact of Hidden Differences

Just because someone has a Hidden Difference doesn't mean they are more likely to be involved in the justice system, or be homeless.

People with undiagnosed and unsupported Hidden Differences have often been failed by the services that are meant to support them, leading to a fire triangle of difficulties which result in very vulnerable young people ending up in very difficult situations.
